Canada occupies one of the most strategically valuable geographic positions in the world, though we have rarely spoken about it in those terms. We are one of the few nations on Earth with direct access to three oceans: the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Arctic. Each of these coastlines connects Canada to major global markets and trade routes, giving the country a natural advantage in transportation, commerce, and international engagement. As global supply chains evolve and geopolitical competition increases, this geographic reality will only become more important.
Canada is one of the world’s true energy powers, though we have often behaved as if we are not. We rank among the top countries globally in proven oil reserves, with decades of supply, largely concentrated in Alberta’s oil sands. These reserves are among the largest and most stable in the democratic world. At the same time, Canada holds vast natural gas resources stretching from British Columbia and Alberta to emerging reserves in Atlantic Canada and the North. Together, these resources position Canada as a critical long-term energy supplier at a moment when the global energy system is undergoing profound change.
Canada does not lack the attributes of a major global power. What we have often lacked is the clarity to recognize our strengths and the coordination to fully act upon them. For decades, Canadian political culture has tended toward caution, modesty, and incremental thinking. Those instincts have their place, particularly in a stable democracy. But they can also lead a country to underestimate its own capabilities.
Too often, Parliament swings back and forth between ideological poles that speak past one another while everyday Canadians are left without practical solutions. Our mission is to serve as a balanced, centrist force in the House of Commons, one that can hold the balance of power and push government toward common-sense outcomes. By focusing on evidence, cooperation, and national interest over partisanship, we offer a real alternative to the status quo and ensure that the voices of moderate, thoughtful Canadians are represented where decisions are made.
